What are Phases?

Phases are user-defined categories. They are similar to CityCAD groups, or 'layers' in other CAD applications, but they also have a start date and an end date.

You can change the phase of Routes, Nodes, Blocks, Trees, City Items and Graphics Objects by selecting them and choosing a phase in the 'General' group in the Properties panel.

Creating and Managing Phases

You can create and manage phases in the Groups/Phases dialog box. You can open this by going to City Menu: Phases, or by typing Ctrl-Shift-P, or by pressing the Phases button on the CityCAD toolbar.

Where can I view a graph of changes over time?

You can go to the Appraisal tab and click on the Timing sub-tab. Here, you can view how different variables such as GFA or number of units change over time.

Adding Phases

If you select a phase in the list, and then click 'Add Phase', the new phase will start on the same day as the end of the selected phase, and will have the same duration.

Deleting Phases

If you delete a phase, then all elements belonging to that phase will be deleted as well. In this case, you will be warned and the 'Delete Elements?' dialog will appear with a list of all elements that will be deleted if you delete that phase.

Adjust Transparency of Hidden Phases

If the Visibility of a phase is turned off, then you can go to the Preferences window and adjust the transparency of hidden phases (and groups).

If you set the transparency to 100%, then they will be completely invisible. Alternatively, you can set the transparency to a different level so that 'hidden' phases appear faded compared to other phases.
