Select tool

The Select Tool is used to select elements such as blocks, nodes, routes, trees and city items in the Main Display Window.

You can choose the Select Tool by clicking on the Select Tool button on the CityCAD Toolbar

Alternatively, if you are working in the Main Display Window and the last mouse click you made was in that window, then press the keyboard shortcut 'S' to choose the select tool.

Selecting Elements

To select an element:

To de-select an element, you have 3 options:

To select more than one item:

Selection Box

If you click and drag using the Select Tool, you can draw a selection box. (This is sometimes called a 'fence' in other CAD applications.) When you release the mouse button, all elements inside the box will be selected.

If you drag from left to right, then only elements inside the box will be selected.

If you drag from right to left, then all elements inside or partly inside the box will be selected. The box will be shown with dotted lines to indicate this.

Right-Click Menu

When using the Select Tool, you can right click on an element and the right-click menu will appear.

This menu provides shortcuts to commands from the Edit and City Menus

If you are using the Select Tool, you can use the following shortcuts:

Filter Selection

If you click the small arrow next to the Select Tool toolbar button, a drop down menu will appear. You can check and uncheck the following:

By default, all of these are selected, meaning that the select tool will select anything.

Using Filter Selection to change levels in a masterplan

The filter selection can be useful if you want to add changes in level to a masterplan.

In the example below, the select tool has been set so it can only select nodes. If you then draw a box, only nodes will be selected. You can then change the level of all of these nodes at the same time by typing a new level in the Node Properties panel.

Cannot select something?

This may be because the type of element has been disabled in the selection filters. Remember to re-select all elements after using the filters.
